Media is moving in that direction. Doxxing is real. Call-outs are permanent. Algorithms remember longer than people do. Sometimes it feels uncomfortably close to a Black Mirror episode \u2014 like we\u2019re inching toward a social score based on how we behave, what we say, and how acceptable we are online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, it\u2019s never been easier to disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I live in Las Vegas, and that contradiction is impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s Easier Than Ever to Disappear \u2014 Even Where You Live<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ve lived in Vegas for years and have run into people I know maybe three or four times in five years. Not because the city is empty \u2014 but because most of us are almost always just\u2026 at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We don\u2019t linger. We don\u2019t run into each other organically. Cities are bigger, routines are tighter, and isolation is quieter than it used to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reinvention is absolutely possible now \u2014 even in the same city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yet, it\u2019s never felt more anxiety-producing to wonder who might be watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Internet Isn\u2019t Fake \u2014 It\u2019s Permanent<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I remember my aunt warning me about internet dating years ago. She suggested I meet men at pool halls instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Think about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meeting strangers in dimly lit bars, drinking late at night, sharing proximity and nothing else \u2014 somehow that felt safer to a previous generation than meeting someone online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was another rule baked into that advice too: don\u2019t shit where you eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That part actually made sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What\u2019s changed isn\u2019t risk \u2014 it\u2019s documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The internet follows you. It attaches. It remembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We didn\u2019t know more about the strangers we met back then. We knew less. We shared proximity, not values. Our pools are bigger now \u2014 for better and worse \u2014 and we act like that makes us more exposed, when really it just makes things more honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The internet is real life now. It just lasts longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That explains a huge percentage of millennial relationship problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We stopped asking and started assuming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We replaced conversation with observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We let vibes replace context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That isn\u2019t awareness \u2014 it\u2019s distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We Perform Because We Know We\u2019re Being Watched<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most people aren\u2019t posting to share reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They\u2019re posting for applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That doesn\u2019t make them shallow. It makes them human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019ve created a quiet shame loop:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
perform to look good compliment instead of ask avoid discomfort pretend we don\u2019t care<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019re entertainers at our core. Always have been. Look at who makes the most money in the world \u2014 it isn\u2019t the people doing the most meaningful work. It\u2019s the people capturing attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Popularity still matters like it\u2019s high school \u2014 except now it\u2019s monetized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Likes turn into ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ads turn into money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Money turns into influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And influence quietly kills authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why influencer vetting is broken. Everyone eventually becomes biased by the paycheck. Questioning authority gets trained out of us early, so instead of asking why, we learn how to optimize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Trauma Was Always There \u2014 We Can Just See It Now<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People like to say everyone is more broken now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trauma was there \u2014 often worse \u2014 it just wasn\u2019t documented, archived, and replayed forever. We focus on anomalies now because visibility makes everything louder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exposure didn\u2019t create dysfunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It revealed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And instead of responding with curiosity, we perform around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I Worked in Digital Ads \u2014 This Is Personal<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I didn\u2019t just observe this system. I helped build it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That isn\u2019t legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s amplification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Popularity Isn\u2019t Connection<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019ve started approaching relationships the wrong way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What do I want?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How does this benefit me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How do you make my life better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s like dating when you only care if they like you \u2014 not if you like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Connection isn\u2019t about highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s about understanding people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s about caring past what looks good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the good, yes \u2014 but also for the bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And often, most importantly, for the comebacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why I\u2019m Choosing Consistency Over Performance<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consistency isn\u2019t about output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s about showing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I learned this through skincare of all things. At first, nothing happens. Then subtle changes. Then the compounding effect hits and you wonder why you didn\u2019t start sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One spa day means nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why people read Yelp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They want truth without popularity attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why I\u2019m Doing This Anyway<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m choosing to slow down on purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
