This is a straightforward, no-nonsense guide to getting Google Analytics set up on your site. I\u2019m keeping it practical, because that\u2019s what I needed when I started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before analytics, here\u2019s the basic setup I\u2019m assuming you already have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- A domain name
Try to keep it short, memorable, and easy to spell. GoDaddy is the most well-known option, but there are plenty of reputable registrars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n - Hosting
I personally chose managed WordPress hosting through Namecheap. It\u2019s simple, affordable, and I don\u2019t have to think about it much.<\/li>\n\n\n\n - SSL + DNS set up
Your site should load with https<\/strong>, not throw security warnings, and actually point to your hosting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\nOnce those pieces are in place, the next thing you need is Google Analytics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why? Because you can\u2019t improve or adjust anything if you can\u2019t see what\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To me, a blog without analytics is like writing a book but refusing to see whether anyone reads it. Analytics tells you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- if anyone is visiting<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- where they\u2019re coming from<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- what they\u2019re reading<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- and whether your work is finding its people yet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
It also helps answer the very real question of \u201cAm I writing into the void, or is this starting to go somewhere?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you search for Google Analytics, you\u2019ll probably see a lot of paid courses right away. You don\u2019t need them yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ve been Google Analytics certified in the past, and if anything, the tool has become simpler<\/strong>, not harder. My advice: don\u2019t pay for courses until you understand the basics well enough to know what questions you actually need answered. There\u2019s so much information out there that it\u2019s easy to overwhelm yourself before you\u2019ve even started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Right now, this is about sweat equity<\/strong>\u2014time, attention, and a little mental effort. Spend money later, when it actually makes sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the next section, I\u2019ll walk through exactly how to add Google Analytics step by step<\/strong>, with screenshots, so you can follow along without guessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before we start, just make sure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The setup only takes a few minutes, but it becomes valuable over time\u2014even if all you\u2019re doing at first is collecting historical data. I always recommend setting up the basics early and adding more tracking or refinement later, once you actually know what you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entire process realistically takes about 10 minutes. And yet, there\u2019s an entire industry of \u201cconsultants\u201d and paid courses yelling about it before most people realize how simple it actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Step one is just getting started. You can refine as you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
